Discovering Queensland

After the sell out success of the last year’s sessions, the State Library is once again offering members of the public the opportunity to discover more about Queensland’s intriguing history during a six week course led by critically acclaimed author and historian, Professor Raymond Evans.

Stretching from the many millennia of Aboriginal pre-contact history through to the years of convictism, free settlement, and into the Bjelke-Petersen era and beyond, Professor Evans will take you on a journey into the colourful, surprising and at times disturbing saga that is the history of this unique Australian state.

The course draws from both Professor Evans acclaimed book A History of Queensland, and the John Oxley Library's significant collection of heritage items, to provide a fascinating insight into Queensland’s past. Collection items are placed on display for participants to view and hold.

To enable active discussion of the topics covered, participants receive a copy of Professor Evans’ book and are asked to read the relevant chapters prior to each session. An accompanying Resourse Manual is also provided.
