black&write! Indigenous Onscreen Trainee Editors

In 2012 and 2013 we have an exiting new addition to the black&write! program - the Onscreen Editing Traineeships.  Each year two Indigenous Editing Trainees will join the program to learn about onscreen editing.  Big thanks to the Australia Council who generously support this part of the program.

If you are wondering what onscreen editing is all about, it is editing manuscripts or copy using computer based programs to track changes to the text.

This year we have welcomed Sylvia Nakatchi from Far North Queensland / Torres Strait and Kamisah Bin Demin from Broome in Western Australia to the black&write! family as our first OnScreen Editing trainees.  In July,  Sylvia and Kamisah visited us for a week to attend a short course in onscreen editing taught by members of the Queensland University of Technology, Creative Writing Faculty.  They also spent time with black&write! staff editors Linda McBride-Yuke and Ellen van Neerven learning about the process of manuscript development.

It was a very busy week and wonderful to meet Sylvia and Kamisah in person and learn about the work they do in their home communities and their plans for the future.
