Bipotaim - Opening

By JOL Admin | 17 February 2010

On the 11th February the Bipotaim: stories from the Torres Strait  exhibition was launched.  This is a powerful photographic exhibition on loan from Gab Titui Cultural Centre, Thursday Island. Bipotaim features striking black and white portraits with recollections from Torres Strait Islanders of the days before and after the pivotal 1967 Referendum.

This exhibition also includes works from Margaret Lawrie collection of Torres Strait Islander materials, which is held within the John Oxley Library on level 4 and which also features in the exhibition Meriba Gidhal: Torres Strait Islander Treasures of the Margaret Lawrie Collection on display in the Talbot Family Treasures Wall on level 4 until 28 February.
