Up all night: local business taps into 'night coffee'

This is the ethos behind a new venture providing barista-quality coffee to hospital and emergency staff across Melbourne between 10pm and 6am six nights a week.

38-year-old Steve Taylor took the gamble to start a nocturnal mobile coffee business ‘Night Fix’ after a suggestion from a nurse back in 2015.

“ said, ‘forget what you’re doing, you’ll make a million bucks from this sort of thing if you go around to all the hospitals at night time and sell coffees’.”

Taylor, who ran a humble roadside coffee van business for seven years in the Yarra Valley, was keen to try something new as competition in the food truck market rendered his business stagnant.

“For $15,000 to $20,00 you buy a trailer, fit it out and park it up on the side of the road it’s very easy to do”, says Taylor. “Site fees for festivals and things are now through the roof.” Read more
