Online Database Challenge 2008 closes
The 2008 Online Database Challenge has now closed. Thank you to all those who entered.
Prize winners will be drawn on Friday 25 July and notified by telephone or email. Details of winners will also be posted on the State Library of Queensland website.

Government House Book Project
As part of Queensland's 150th Anniversary celebrations, The Office of the Governor of Queensland has commissioned a special publication telling the story of our state through the contribution of the men and women who served as Queensland's governors.
The State Library of Queensland supports the Project and invites your contributions of photographs, diaries, correspondence or memorabilia that would help tell the story.

Poetry Slam 2008
The State Library of Queensland is again calling out to all poets, hip-hop artists and outspoken wordsmiths to polish up their rhymes and lyrics for Australia’s national poetry slam, with more than $10,000 in cash and prizes on offer.

Directory of public libraries updated
The Directory of Queensland public library services, a joint initiative of the State Library of Queensland and public library services across the state, has been reorganised and updated to take account of the recent Local Government amalgamations. As well, new information is being provided for each library, including opening hours and other services.

Webcast – Kate Jennings in conversation
In this new webcast Kate Jennings, fiercely intelligent writer, astute observer of people and her surroundings, recent widow not ready to face her grief, and irascible Australian with no time for indulgent New Yorkers and their pampered pets is joined by Kriss Olsson in a lively and engaging conversation where she muses over her autobiographical book, Stanley and Sophie. This webcast was recorded at the State Library on 28 May, 2008.

New webcasts: Helen Garner and John McDonald
Helen Garner is one of Australia’s most respected writers of essays and non-fiction. This webcast features Helen in conversation with Ashley Hay, discussing The Spare Room, her first novel in 15 years, at her only Brisbane appearance. Ashley is a former literary editor of The Bulletin, and the author of four books of non-fiction as well as essays, short stories and journalism.
For over twenty years John McDonald has been one of Australia’s best-known art critics, writing a weekly column for the Sydney Morning Herald and contributing to local and international publications. This webcast features John in a lively conversation about contemporary Australian art with Timothy Morrell, a curator who has regularly contributed to exhibition catalogues and periodicals on Australian art for the past 20 years.

Convicts database launched
The British convict transportation registers 1787-1867 database has been compiled from the British Home Office (HO) records. Find details for over 123,000 of the estimated 160,000 convicts transported to Australia in the 18th and 19th centuries - names, term of years, transport ships and more.

Virtual book - The emu went walking
The emu went walking is a story from the Gunggari people of South East Queensland. It was written by Irene Ryder and illustrated by Del Mailman, and contains a list of words in the Gunggari language. The story is read by Dean Nixon.
