The Twelve Days of Christmas - Picture Queensland style

New Indigenous Knowledge Centre opens on Hammond Island
Premier and Minister for the Arts Anna Bligh today officially opened Queensland’s 18th Indigenous Knowledge Centre, in the remote community of Hammond Island in the Torres Strait.

All aboard for summer holiday fun at the State Library
This summer the State Library of Queensland is setting sail for a worldwide holiday adventure. From 2 to 24 January, young explorers can traverse the globe through an international extravaganza of music, craft, activities, games and exhibitions.

Black Opium open for viewing
Fiona Foley's visually seductive work leads visitors on a journey through a little known part of Queensland history.
Layered with meaning, revealing a time when Aboriginal people were often paid for their labours with opium, robbing them of their health, and in some cases, their lives.
Black Opium was commissioned as part of the State Library's 2006 redevelopment and was designed to draw visitors along the Knowledge Walk and to act as a prelude to the Heritage Collections Suite on level four.

The Christmas beetles are back!
The State Library has again been decorated with individually crafted and glowing copper Christmas beetles to celebrate the festive season. Look out for them at the Stanley Place entrance, Tognini’s, the Knowledge Walk and Reception and see how many you can find.

End of construction marks next phase for youth digital centre
State Librarian Lea Giles-Peters has signalled the beginning of an exciting new phase for The Edge, a digital centre for young people at the Cultural Centre, with construction ending today.
"The facility, based at the State Library of Queensland, has undergone a $10.15 million makeover over the past six months to adapt the former auditorium building into The Edge – a creative new space with a focus on learning, making, sharing and presenting using contemporary tools and critical ideas," Ms Giles-Peters said.
