Five personal stories
Five individuals and their families have generously agreed to share their stories in the exhibition in the hope that this history will never be repeated. Each of the five personal histories is a story of separation from parents and of continuing grief. Each separation occurred because the child was Aboriginal and because others thought they knew better than their own Aboriginal parents how to rear them.
Three personal histories are about the separation that occurred when the children were put into dormitories on missions and reserves during the 1930s and 1940s.
Two personal stories are about removal in the 1960s and 1970s.
