Want to learn the art of visual storytelling?  Then get your creative juices flowing at Cartoon, Animation and Manga Workshops these school holidays!Gary-Clarke-illustration

Workshops are designed to cater for different age groups and various learning styles. Come for one workshop or stay for the whole day at a reduced rate, with supervised activities in The Parlour at lunchtime.

Workshops

Cartoon-WorkshopsDiscover the art of cartooning and create your own cartoon characters! These workshops will develop skills and talents for writing and drawing while encouraging you to explore your own style. Participants receive an art book, pencils and pencil case to take home.

Manga-workshopsInterested in the art of Manga?  Discover the styles and techniques of this unique art form originating from Japanese comic books. Learn to create and draw characters from the ground up.  Participants receive an art book, pencils and pencil case to take home.

Stop-motionLove Wallace and Gromit? Create your own clay animation sequence using stop motion animation processes! Workshops build skills in concept development, set and prop construction and clay sculpting. Participants receive a DVD copy of their own creation.

Flash-workshopsPrepare to be taken on an online adventure! Discover how to use the computer animation program Adobe Flash to create your own animated masterpiece. Participants receive a DVD copy of their own creation.

About the artists

cartoonist

Gary Clark
Growing up in Brisbane near a creek inspired Gary to create his famous cartoon strip Swamp. He has won the Australian Cartoonist’s Association Stanley Award for Best Comic Strip Artist eight times.

John Cook
John draws Sev Space, a cartoon parody of sci-fi and fantasy movies such as Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. His movie Sev Trek was released in 2004 and he is currently working on a new cartoon series, A Time To Laugh. John runs workshops on how to write jokes and brainstorm cartoon ideas.

Brian Doyle
Brian is a freelance cartoonist with a lifetime of experience in the advertising industry. His Cartoon Funshops have encouraged over 200,000 children to “Keep on Drawing”.

Manga 

Madonna Spelta
Madonna has been creating comics since she was fourteen when she developed a taste for Japanese style art. In 2004 her Manga Souls Forgotten was published by OzTAKU and has since been serialised.

Bazil Grumble
Bazil Grumble offers unique educational arts experiences for children. They facilitate hands on multi-arts workshops, create children’s theatre performances and conduct weekly drama classes in Brisbane.

PixelFrame
PixelFrame is a film production company based in Brisbane.
They produce TV commercials, music clips, animations, promotional films and multimedia projects for a diverse range of clients both nationally and internationally.
