UQ Architecture lecture – Liam Young
This event is now in the past.
The series invites leading architects to share and discuss new ideas and knowledge centred on the role of architecture and design in the Asia Pacific.
This week Liam Young from Tomorrows Thoughts Today will present.
About the speaker
Liam Young teaches at the Architectural Association in London and is visiting professor at Princeton University. He is an architect who operates in the spaces between design, fiction and futures.
Liam is founder of the urban futures think tank Tomorrows Thoughts Today, a group whose work explores the possibilities of fantastic, perverse and imaginary urbanisms. He co founded the ‘Unknown Fields Division’, an award winning nomadic workshop that travels on annual expeditions to the ends of the earth to investigate unreal and forgotten landscapes, alien terrains and industrial ecologies. Unknown Fields have developed projects through expeditions from the Ecuadoran Amazon and the Galapagos Islands to far north Alaska, the mining landscapes of the Australia Outback, the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Liam was a curator of the 2013 Lisbon Architecture Triennale and is a contributing editor for ICON magazine. Liam’s work has been acclaimed in both mainstream and architectural media, including the BBC, NBC, Wired, Time, and Dazed and Confused. He was named by Blueprint magazine as one of 25 people who will change architecture and design.
Architecture professionals attending the UQ architecture lecture series are eligible for two formal continuing professional development points (CPD) through the Australian Institute of Architects 'Refuel' program.
The UQ architecture lecture series takes place every Tuesday from 25 Mar – 20 May, arrival 6pm for 6.30pm start.
If you're unable to attend this lecture, you can watch a livestream of the discussion. Following the event, a HD video recording of the lecture will be published on Design Online along with reading notes and an event review.
