Queenslanders in Conversation: screens or sunshine
This event is now in the past.
Is technology changing the Queensland lifestyle?
Many equate the Australian lifestyle as one experienced outdoors. In Queensland, our landscape and climate reinforces our reputation as a playground for sun, sand and sea lovers.
Unsurprisingly, the way we play is gradually changing. In 2013 Australians spent over a quarter of their weekly leisure hours online; by 2016, 80% of Australians owned a smartphone.
As State Library explores what makes a meaningful life in our exhibition Lifestyle: a sunshine state of mind, this conversation considers the future of our lifestyle and wellness. Does technology have a positive impact on the way we play? Does the way we play contribute to our wellness?
In this Queenslanders in Conversation, our guest host from ABC Radio Brisbane, Loretta Ryan will facilitate a conversation between Prof. Jeffrey Brand (Bond University and author of Digital Australia Report), Elizabeth Hughes (Digital Detox Project), Dr. Deb Polson (QUT lecturer in interactive and visual design) and Yen Trinh (urbanist and designer).
We invite you to join us for a free tour of Lifestyle: a sunshine state of mind at 5.30pm, prior to the talk.
Can’t make it in person? Watch the live stream on our website and join the conversation on social media using #SLQconvo.
