A night in the JOL - New ways with old words

New ways with old words

This event is now in the past.

Join Patricia and Rory O’Connor from the Yugambeh Museum, Language and Heritage Research Centre to learn about their journey reviving the language and culture of the Yugambeh people.

Explore the changes over time - from the 1970s when there was no recognition of the language, to now where Queensland’s first Aboriginal dictionary app is available. Discover new ways of using old languages and take part in a Haiku competition using Aboriginal languages.

This is the fifth instalment of A night in the JOL, a monthly talk series hosted by Dr Kate Evans (ABC Radio National), delving into Queensland’s rich and diverse history. You’re invited to join in the discussion and get up close to historical treasures on display.

Please note - audience members will be required to cloak all bags to ensure the safety of State Library’s collections.
