Crowd Giving 2017
Are you, or do you know an aspiring or experienced philanthropist? Be part of an evening of persuasive pitches, philanthropy, and the power of collective funding.
Crowd Giving is an easy and fun way to support your favourite institution and causes, and you don’t need to be a millionaire.
Hear about three compelling and impactful SLQ projects that need your support.
You’ll receive expert tips from a successful philanthropist on what to look for and consider when choosing which project is worthy. Grill the presenters, spark some friendly competition, and participate in an audience vote.
The crowd will decide which SLQ project will receive your collective $10,000 funding to help get it off the ground.
Connect over refreshments on the iconic Queensland Terrace with a special group of supporters passionate about investing in cultural heritage, literacy and libraries.
Your $100 donation to Queensland Library Foundation entitles you to attend the event and to one vote towards making a direct impact to communities through State Library’s valued work.
Can’t make it on the night? A donation to Queensland Library Foundation is gratefully received and will directly support SLQ’s important work.
The three projects vying for the funds:
State Library seeks to stretch the concept of what a 21st century library does as we collect, preserve and make accessible the story of Queenslanders. A rare and fragile globe, created in the 1950s for vision impaired children, is a story of passion, enterprise and skill. Your vote will enable State Library to make this story known to all through the use of emerging technologies, including photogrammetry and three dimensional printing, to create an exact replica that can be touched as the original was intended to be experienced.
Queensland in motion
Motion pictures capture our dearest memories. Through film, we are transported into the lives of our forebears, as we understand and empathise with the people, places and events that have shaped Queensland’s diverse and colourful history. State Library is home to a truly unique collection of motion pictures, however many of them are in danger of deteriorating beyond repair. Your vote will save our unique films. Vote for digitisation, so we can preserve and make our films accessible for the world to remix, reuse and rediscover for generations to come.
Amplify young voices
With your vote State Library and Queensland Poetry Festival will expand SlammED, our much loved slam poetry competition for young people, currently delivered across 10 South East Queensland schools annually. A new satellite version of SlammED will come to life in the libraries of a regional Queensland community, bringing 15-17 year olds face to face with the state’s best slam poets. The goal: empowering young people to unleash bold truths and inspired insights that reflect themselves and their communities. The voices of young Queenslanders deserve to be heard, and we owe it to them to listen.
