Crowd Giving

This event is now in the past.

The Queensland Library Foundation has launched Crowd Giving, an innovative fundraising concept that gives you a choice on how your donation will be spent.

Learn about three amazing State Library of Queensland projects hoping they’ll earn the fundraising kitty to fast track their project into the community!

Project leaders will showcase their social-impact project at the Crowd Giving event and after being grilled by their philanthropic audience, a vote will determine who walks away with the kitty. For an evening of fun, philanthropy and a little bit of friendly competition — donate $100 to the Queensland Library Foundation today and claim your right to vote on 5 July.

Which project would you like to win the fundraising kitty? Crowd Giving will present these projects:

Honouring Queenslanders

Every life is priceless, but not every life lived is remembered. SLQ’s Queensland Memory team is uniquely placed to capture, celebrate and share personal stories of ordinary Queenslanders. These stories may involve your family member, neighbour, a returned soldier, recent immigrant, renowned artist or business leader. Your vote will honour these people by ensuring their stories are recorded and, most importantly, remembered.

Building the future

State Library’s digital culture centre — The Edge, is building Queensland’s first open-access, community Fabrication Lab, an inclusive environment where anything you can imagine, you can make — no matter who you are, where you’ve come from or where you are going. To see the Lab provide this service to the community, we need machines for people to learn and make with. Your vote will enable us to empower disadvantaged communities — from recently-arrived refugees to young people disengaged from traditional education institutions — and give them the skills and confidence to design and develop a wide variety of products.

Fun Palaces

Imagine living in a community with minimal exposure to new technologies, science and the arts. Unfortunately, for many Queensland families, that’s a reality which is why SLQ is taking Fun Palaces — an annual, immersive celebration of arts and culture — to regional communities. Learn how to handle tools, paint, machinery, or just listen to your favourite tune. Dance, talk, or be lifted up to where you can see how other people make things work. Try your hand at being an artist — or just lie back and stare at the sky. Fun Palaces are global art and science events with a difference, and your vote will ensure SLQ is able to reach as many communities as possible.
