Japanese washi paper and shell medallion necklaces

Washi paper necklaces

This event is now in the past.

Join Brisbane-based jewellery designer Barbara Vine for a hands-on introduction to making your own necklace using washi paper covered shell and crystal beads. Barbara will show you how to apply and lacquer the paper on the shell base and how to assemble the threaded crystals and paper medallion on to a fine ribbon neck band.

A kit will be provided as well as instructions, glue, lacquer, and beading tools to use during the class. Please bring a notebook and pen; a small plastic takeaway container to transport your necklace home; and an apron as you will be working with sandpaper, glue and lacquer.

Extra kits will be available for sale on the night if you would like to continue making necklaces at home. Barbara’s washi paper based jewellery is available for purchase in the shop.

Another session of this workshop is being held on Thursday 4 August. Check out the other craft workshops available in the SLQ Shop this winter, to learn other skills from local artists.
