Black Queen, Black King by Steven Oliver

Live! Queensland band culture

This event is now in the past.

Enjoy highlights from the musical Black Queen, Black King.

When Kaiden discovers his closest friend, an Indigenous drag queen called “Rachael Discrimination”, is not who he thinks she is, his world finally fractures. Kaiden is now forced to see that he is also a stranger to himself. Told through song, comedy and with a drag aesthetic, Black Queen Black King is the high energy musical of three Indigenous gay men that explores the importance of identity, the meaning of family and the need for honesty.

Written by Steven Oliver, directed by Ian Lawson and with music composed by Phil Slade, let Black Queen, Black King take you on a wondrous journey of black identity through song, cabaret and saucy storytelling!

Part of Live! Queensland band culture, celebrating the soundtrack of our state through performances, exhibitions and events. Check out the full program of activities or download the free SLQ Live! app (available from the App Store and Google Play).
