You Don't Have To Be Jewish! film festival

Jewish Film Festival

This event is now in the past.

Come and celebrate Jewish culture and identity at the inaugural You Don’t Have To Be Jewish! film festival.

Nine films will screen over two days at SLQ, including Raymond Ley’s Eichmann’s End and Ismael Ferroukhi’s Free Men and documentaries Pizza in Auschwitz, Jealous of the Birds, After the Silence, and The Courage of Strangers.

Festival highlight, and a world-first, is the back-to-back screenings of the Philippe Mora’s Mosaic trilogy of films – Gertrude Stein Mystery or Some Like It Art, German Sons and Continuity. Mora will attend the festival and conduct a master class on ‘gonzo’ filmmaking in Australia in the 1970s.

This is Brisbane’s inaugural Jewish film festival. The festival aims to create community and strengthen consciousness of Jewish identity, history and culture; as well as provide a dynamic and inclusive forum for exploration of and dialogue about Jewish experiences within the wider Queensland community.

We’ve packed an awful lot into two days and have films that touch on many aspects of Jewish culture. There'll be laughs, thrills, tears and enlightenment.Join us, we want everyone to come along and enjoy the festival, remember, you don’t have to be Jewish, but it doesn’t hurt!

Presented by SLQ and the Jewish Film Foundation of Australia.
