Be Here to Love Me

This event is now in the past.

Sunday free film double feature:

Be Here to Love Me (M, 2004, 99min) Director: Margaret Brown | Cast: Townes Van Zandt.

Country/blues singer Townes Van Zandt has been regularly hailed as the greatest songwriter of his generation, while remaining virtually unknown in the mainstream world. Be Here To Love Me chronicles his remarkable, ramshackle life through extensive archival footage and the testimony of those who knew him best. Sometimes painful, always majestic, the music and story of Townes are essential for music fans of any persuasion. Watch the trailer.

You See Me Laughin’ (M, 2002, 77min) Director: Mandy Stein | Cast: RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough. The adventures of Mississippi bluesmen RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough and a host of others come to life in this gritty, thumping document of a scene that continues to thrive in the cramped venues and porches of Mississippi. Watch the trailer.

To celebrate the launch of the Live! Queensland band culture exhibition, we spend May with a series of documentaries about those who have forged their own unique, disparate voices in the world of music. View the full program.
