Live! in Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery

Moorooka State School Band welcoming home soldiers from World War II in Brisbane, Queensland, ca. 1945

Do you remember the first time you heard your favourite band? Was it on the radio? In the park? What was it that drew you in? Perhaps it was the feeling it gave you to see people engaged in an activity they loved.

Community music making is a part of every society. Bands can provide a strong sense of identity for both players and supporters. Community bands are social units, created by social demand and serving social ends.

Live! in Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery considers the role and development of bands in Queensland communities from the 1850s till now through photographs, sheet music, posters and clothing.

This exhibtion is part of Live! Queensland band culturecelebrating the soundtrack of Queensland through live performances, exhibitions and events.
