State Library is currently running two competitions to engage with the community in new and different ways around the future of libraries by answering the complex question ‘why library’?

Image Competition – Imagine the library of the future
Help to imagine what libraries will look like in the future - participate for your chance to win one of four $50 JB Hi Fi vouchers.
We invite you to show us through digital image what you would like the library of the future to include or look like. Be creative for your chance to win one of four $50 JB Hi Fi vouchers.
We are looking for inspiring images which shows what a library could include or look like in the future. It might be a piece of furniture or equipment, a drawing of how you envisage the library of the future, a building you like or a colour scheme, let your imagination be your guide.
How to enter
- Download the Instagram app for Android or iPhone
- Take and edit your photo
- Upload the photo to Instagram with the hashtag #ylibrary (privacy settings must be set to ‘public’ for us to retrieve your photo)
The fine print
- By entering this competition you are agreeing to the terms and conditions for the Image competition
- Limit of five entries per person.
- Entry is open to all permanent residents of Australia.
- The competition opens 10.00am Monday 2 September 2013 and closes 11.59pm Sunday 27 October 2013.
- Winners will be selected at random.
- The winners will be announced on Friday 15 November 2013.

Writing competition – Describe the library of the future
Describe libraries of the future – submit an entry of up to 200 words for your chance to win an iPad mini.
Libraries are no longer buildings that just house books. They have been changing to meet the needs of their communities. We invite you to submit a written entry of up to 200 words based on the theme the library of the future. Write about what you want to the library of the future to be or what you would like the library to include or look like. Your submission could be a story, a poem, song lyrics, or a haiku. Let your imagination be your guide.
The three finalists will be published on the SLQ today blog. The most inspiring entry will be awarded an iPad mini.
