Australian Poetry Slam - Queensland

Prizes

Think you've got what it takes? Here's what's up for grabs…

Heats

The champion of each slam heat is awarded $100 cash prize.
Both the heat champion and runner up are flown to Brisbane, with accommodation paid for, to compete in the Queensland State Finals on Friday 7 October.

States

The Queensland Champion will receive $500 cash prize, with the runner-up getting $100 cash prize.
Both will be flown to Sydney, with accommodation covered, to compete at the Australian National Finals at Sydney Theatre on Sunday 27 November.

Nationals

When it all comes to a head at the National Finals, Slammers will be competing for the ultimate writer's tour of Asia. The Australian Poetry Slam Champion for 2011 will mix it up with the literati; presenting panels, performances and workshops at the Bookworm International Writers Festival in Beijing, Chengdu and Suzhou in 2012 and at The Ubud Writers and Readers Festival in Bali.

The total value of the two trips is up to $11,000 and priceless professional development. Think: drinking champagne in a palace, conversing with Louis de Bernières or discussing dub poetry with Benjamin Zephaniah in Tiananmen Square.
