Info Guide - How to apply for and use your e-services card

Register for an e-services card

e-services registration is available to:

  • all Queensland residents to search our catalogue, use online databases, and more both onsite and from home
  • non-Queensland residents who regularly use our onsite resources

eServices cardIf you wish to come in and use the services within the State Library of Queensland building you will need to show proof of ID - please see information below. Written consent from a parent or guardian is required for clients under 18 years of age.

An e-services card is issued for two years and gives you access to a range of State Library services:

  • Access to journal articles from a selection of databases searchable from home or anywhere you have internet access. The State Library database licence agreements permit access to Queensland residents only.

Interstate and overseas visitors will have access to these databases only within the State Library building.

  • Request an item from home. Request an item for items held in storage areas. The items will then be waiting for you when you visit the State Library. You are also welcome to request stored items while onsite, but please check the delivery times and collection points. (Note: requested items are available only at the State Library at South Bank. Clients outside Brisbane should visit their Queensland public library to arrange an interlibrary loan.)
  • Search the Internet for up to two hours per day.
  • Access AV streaming facilities on Level 3.
  • Borrow music scores. Patrons wishing to borrow music scores should take their e-services card and current ID with them to the Information Desk on Level 3 of the State Library in order to register as a music borrower. (Conditions apply.)

To register

  • Onsite
Show the required ID to the staff on the Level 3 Information Desk and they will process your card and give it to you immediately.
  • Online - complete the automatic registration form. Your e-services card will be mailed within five working days of receipt of your registration.

Your card will have a unique barcode printed on the back which is used to access the services listed above.

The State Library is a reference and research library and does not lend its collections directly to individuals. The e-services card will not allow you to borrow from the State Library (except for music scores and as BR+SQ members).
