The State Library of Queensland provides a quality image reproduction service, offering clients a high-resolution digital scan or photographic print of items held in our collections.

For clients not requiring a high resolution scan or print, our Document Supply service provides a low-resolution scan and photocopy service, as well as providing a copy and loan service of items held in other Australian and overseas libraries.

How to order

Image orders can be made through One Search for selected collections if the 'Order a copy' option is available. This link is located in the details tab.

Alternatively, the Photographic and Digital Image Order Form [ (DOC 128.0 KB)] can be completed.

Orders cannot be submitted online. Completed forms can be submitted via:

Images are provided to specifications and sizes outlined in the price list above, unless otherwise specified at the time of order. If you have any other requirements, please do not hesitate to discuss them with the Library staff prior to ordering.

Formats that are outside the scope of the Library's photographic unit would be referred to a commercial photographer for provision of a quotation.

What is the difference between JPEG and TIFF?

Smaller file size when saved to take up less disk or memory space.

 

Larger file size, making them harder to upload or send via email.

 

Some image data lost due to compression when saving.

Image use and copyright 

The State Library does not charge for the use of images in its collection in publications, exhibitions, or online. Permission to publish images where copyright has expired does not need to be sought from the State Library.

When using images from Picture Queensland we ask that you acknowledge the State Library in the following way - John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland Neg: xxxxxx

If you are using an image online we also ask that you provide a link back to the image in our collection in your acknowledgement - John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland Neg: xxxxxx. http://hdl.handle.net/xxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxx
Negative numbers and the links to digital items appear in the description of each photograph.  

The State Library requests that a complimentary copy of the item in which the image is published is received for the collection where possible.

Copyright and cultural clearances, where necessary, are the responsibility of the client who shall indemnify the Library Board of Queensland against any action whatsoever taken by the copyright owner(s) against the State Library of Queensland arising in any way whatsoever from the publication of the Photographic Materials by or on behalf of the Applicant.
