Queensland wartime romances

Many who have lived through times of war have spoken of the passionate intensity they experienced when finding love amid the chaos and confusion. In the State Library’s Queensland Memory Collections, there are numerous items relating to love and war.

View Queensland wedding photographs from the WWI and WWII eras. It features reproductions of assorted documents, images and letters from the John Oxley Library’s Charles Rowland Williams Papers telling the tragic story of “Dambuster”, Flying Officer Charles Rowland Williams and his love for fiancé Gwendoline (Bobbie) Parfitt.

  • State Library of Queensland to be notified prior to the return of the exhibition.
  • Forward and return transport costs are the responsibility of the applicant.
  • Only one exhibition available to an institution at the one time.
  • Reproduction of items within the exhibition requires the written permission of the State Library of Queensland.
