You can download and listen to a number of audio and digital files for free.

State Library of Queensland provides copies of a number of digitised audiovisual items, and audio or video file items (i.e. CDs, DVDs) in its collection.

How to order

Orders for oral history and audio files should be made via the Image Order Form.  Orders cannot be submitted online. Completed forms can be submitted via:

Definitions

Audio Visual

CD-R (650 MB)

An optical disc storage format or carrier used to save digital files - usually audio

DVD R

An optical disc storage format or carrier used to save digital files - usually video or large amount of audio

Audio Formats

CDDA (for Audio-CD)

Compact Disc Digital Audio is an audio compact disc playable on both CD players and computers with CD drives.

WAV

WAV provided by SLQ is an uncompressed PCM audio format and used as a preservation format. Can be 16 bit or 24 bit, 48KHz or 96KHz; or 16 bit, 44.1 KHz for Audio-CD source)

MP3

MP3 is a lossy compressed audio coding format - SLQ uses MP3 as a derivative access audio format

Video Formats

DVD- Video

DVD-Video is a digital video disc playable on both DVD players and computers with DVD drives. DVD-Video has structured  directories and files for the H.262/MPEG2-Part 2 compression video and audio.

 

MP4

MP4 is a multimedia container format. SLQ uses MP4 for containing derivative access video files

Audio Visual and copyright

At State Library we are committed to provide the greatest possible access to materials in our collections to support creativity, innovation and the development of new knowledge.

We provide free access to high resolution files of our out of copyright digitised collections for these purposes. (Currently this service may not be available on all mobile devices).

State Library does not charge for the use of images in its collection in publications, exhibitions, or online. Permission to publish images where copyright has expired does not need to be sought from State Library.

Copyright and Cultural Clearances, where necessary, are the responsibility of the client who shall indemnify the Library Board of Queensland against any action whatsoever taken by the copyright owner(s) against State Library arising in any way whatsoever from the publication of photographic materials by or on behalf of the client.
