The Garage

The GarageEver thought of cruising to the beach in a classic convertible? Or restoring Auntie Edna’s old Morris? Queensland is a haven for collectors of classic cars and their memorabilia. Relative affluence, a mild climate and plenty of space mean that old cars often survive for long periods lurking in garages and sheds, under houses or in the back paddock.

Enthusiastic collectors eventually discover them, snap them up and restore them - for the pleasure of realising their historical value and owning a distinctive means of transport. Cars from all over the world  - including many exotic makes - were imported to Australia and of course the unique locally produced vehicles have a strong and dedicated following.

‘The Garage’ combines the extensive resources for car restoration and repair from the State Reference Library with a collection of unique photographs on Queensland motoring from the John Oxley Library. The pages contain information on vehicles including cars and trucks from 1900 to the 1970s.
