Some databases have significant archives of early articles and most are accessible 24/7 away from State Library using your SLQ membership.

This database delivers an identical replica of The Age printed edition. It contains every page, article, photo, table, advertisement and cartoon published in the printed edition. 2006 content is limited to only the News, Business and Sport sections.

Current and back issues (to the late 1990s) of approximately 400 Australian and New Zealand newspapers, including all Queensland regionals.
Canadian Newsstream (ProQuest)
Offers access to the full text of nearly 300 newspapers from Canada's leading publishers, including The Globe and Mail. Some back files date as far back as the late 1970s and 1980s. Updated daily.
JTA Jewish News Archive
The JTA Jewish News Archive is a comprehensive chronicle of modern Jewish history, as seen through the eyes of journalists. From the aftermath of World War I, to the rise of Nazi Germany, through the Holocaust, the creation of the modern State of Israel and right up to today, JTA journalists have been reporting on stories and issues affecting Jews around the globe. The JTA Jewish News Archive holds over a quarter-million articles dating from 1917 to current day.

The Sydney Morning Herald archives contains 820,000 pages in almost 13,000 issues of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun-Herald, spanning January 1st, 1955 to February 2nd, 1995. Index New Zealand
Index New Zealand indexes nearly 300 journals and newspapers. It is the key New Zealand database for social sciences, arts, humanities and general interest material, and indexes some South Pacific journals. Index New Zealand is updated daily and comprehensive coverage of titles extends from 1987 onwards. Many New Zealand titles have also been retrospectively indexed.

Newspapers on microfilm
State Library has very long runs of Australian (and some international) newspapers on microfilm, which are available for use on Level 3 of the South Bank building. You can locate microfilm newspaper titles using our One Search catalogue. There are also two listings in the Reading Room on Level 3: Newspapers by place and Newspapers by title.
