Tim Fairfax Newspaper Reading Room
The Tim Fairfax Newspaper Reading Room provides convenient access to the State Library of Queensland's wide range of newspapers, newspaper indexes and news via electronic media. Today's newspapers from around Australia and overseas are available in paper and electronic format, and clients can search and access a deep archive of newspaper articles back to 1785. The Room was named after Tim Fairfax in appreciation of his generous support in the creation of the space.
The Tim Fairfax Newspaper Reading Room is located on Level 3 of the State Library building, and offers views of the city, river and South Bank Parklands. Surrounding the reading room is a poetic wooden sculpture suggesting the rolling presses of traditional newspaper production.
In the Newspaper Reading Room you can:
- Read newspapers from Queensland, Australia and overseas
- Search eresources for newspaper articles and access them online or on microfilm in the adjacent Micrographics Room
- Watch TV news.
