The State Library is committed to the professional development (PD) of Queensland educators. We support and encourage contemporary pedagogy and practice - our PD events provide practical, hands-on experiences and resources to implement immediately in your classroom.

Arranging your visit

State Library offers an orientation tour for class groups arriving for self-directed study. This brief tour will familiarise students with learning spaces and services required for their study. It is essential to arrange group bookings for study, events and exhibitions through Learning or 3842 9293.

Black2School workshops
SLQ is proud to launch the new Black2School workshop series, designed to increase students’ knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures and support educators in embedding Indigenous perspectives in classrooms.

In-school workshops with Sherryl Clark 

12–16 May | For Years 4–9 | Free

SLQ is working with acclaimed children’s book author Sherryl Clark to deliver a workshop program directly into schools. Apply to have Sherryl come to your school to run a free writing or poetry workshop in May.

  • Writing stories from life (1hr) focuses on turning real-life stories into fiction, with practical techniques for structuring your writing.
  • Fun with poetry (1hr) introduces students to reading and writing poems, using examples of a range of poems to illustrate how a simple idea can be transformed.

To support exhibitions and events, State Library creates learning notes with teaching and learning activities linked directly to the Australian Curriculum. These notes are designed to enhance your onsite experience.
