State Library offers educators support, professional development, and resources to enhance their teaching practice. Our aim is to empower educators with practical knowledge and skills to assist their students to use State Library collections and services.
Professional development
The State Library is committed to the professional development (PD) of Queensland educators. We support and encourage contemporary pedagogy and practice - our PD events provide practical, hands-on experiences and resources to implement immediately in your classroom.

Arranging your visit
State Library offers an orientation tour for class groups arriving for self-directed study. This brief tour will familiarise students with learning spaces and services required for their study. It is essential to arrange group bookings for study, events and exhibitions through Learning or 3842 9293.
8 to 14 years may enjoy exploring some of State Library's treasures with the Secret SLQ app.
Learning notes
To support exhibitions and events, State Library creates learning notes with teaching and learning activities linked directly to the Australian Curriculum. These notes are designed to enhance your onsite experience.

Anzac week: White gloves experience
Mon 22 – Fri 26 Apr | $7 per child, bookings essential
Register your class for a hands-on white gloves experience, looking at some of SLQ’s rarest and most precious original war materials including letters, photographs, artefacts and ephemera. Bookings are limited to two sessions per day during ANZAC week.

Live presents the ‘power and the passion’ of people and audiences who helped create Queensland band culture over the past 160 years. Live is an immersive and interactive experience exploring what it meant to be in a band, to be a fan, and the many ways we consume music on a daily basis.

Specially designed for students, SlammED! workshops culminate in a joint Poetry Slam where participants take their new-found skills to the stage.
The Dreaming [working title]
Oct 2013 – Feb 2014 | Free exhibition
Presenting 20 Queensland stories adapted into animations as part of the Australian Aboriginal Nations’ series. This work is the most distinctive collection of Aboriginal animations recognisable through its airtime on the ABC network.
