The People's Park Project
The Peoples Park Project was an idea from the local Aboriginal community - "leaving our mark in West End," supported by Cr Abrahams' office and the Community Parks Development Fund.
As redevelopment and gentrification has taken a hold of the local area, minority groups, Indigenous groups, the homeless community and low income earners have been moved out of the local area. The local Aboriginal community thought that painting a mural in a public space in the West End area would leave a reminder that the area is steeped in Aboriginal history, even though the demographics and aesthetics have changed dramatically over the past few years.
The area will be ingrained with Aboriginal art - a forever reminder that this was and is still Aboriginal land.
