| Question: | Is there a size limit for email attachments sent to the State Library of Queensland Listserver? |
| Answer: |
Yes. Attachments should be no larger than 300 kb. An alternative to sending attachments could be placing the publication/image/file on a website and providing a link to it in the email you send to the list. |
| Question: | How do I get a list of members in my list/forum? |
| Answer: |
All lists/forums hosted by the State Library are set so that only the list owner can see who the members are. This is an attempt to protect members from being spammed by someone trawling a list/forum for email addresses. If you require a list of members please contact your list/forum owner. For list owners:

| Question: | How can I link directly to my list webpage? |
| Answer: |
All lists have a web page that contains a link directly to the specific list. Please don't make changes to the listname without first informing the State Library's mailing list manager. Changes to a list name require changing the web page.
To visit the list go to http://lists.slq.qld.gov.au/read/?forum=[listname]. Replace [listname] with the name of your list, eg., http://lists.slq.qld.gov.au/read/?forum=opalinfo.

| Question: | Why is there a size limit on attachments? |
| Answer: |
Message attachments can significantly increase the size of a post, especially if multiple documents or images are attached. Since Lyris must deliver a post to each recipient individually, large posts will cause additional overhead in message processing and storage on the Lyris server, and may slightly delay delivery to all recipients.
Many subscribers' mail services have restrictions the size of attachments they can receive (typically 1MB to 10MB), as well as the total mailbox size (typically 10MB to 1000MB). Large attachments will also affect subscribers who access their mail using dial-up connections. It can take up to 5 minutes for a dial-up user to download a 1MB attachment. To ensure the posting is delivered to all list members, the message size should be kept to a reasonable level. The message size limit of 300kb will allow a very large plain-text or HTML formatted email to be sent (roughly 300000 characters). This size limit may also allow individual documents or low/medium resolution images to be posted, but this should be avoided. |
