Critically acclaimed author and historian, Professor Raymond Evans reflects on his book: A History of Queensland (2008) with Louise Denoon. The book encompasses the many millennia of Aboriginal pre-contact history through to the years of convictism, free settlement, and into the Bjelke-Petersen era and beyond.

The Gugu Badhun History Projects

Bob James – School of Indigenous Australian Studies and School of Arts, Education and Social Sciences, James Cook University and Yvonne Cadet-James

Introduced by Gugu Badhan Elder Yvonne Cadet-James: in this session Bob James describes how the project aimed to record and present the life histories of elders of the Gugu Badhun people as well as those of non-Indigenous people associated with the Upper Burdekin area; and elaborates on methods of interviewing and recording, availability of the material and ongoing ramifications of the projects.

Behind the Margaret Lawrie Collection of Torres Strait Islands material

Louise Denoon, Executive Manager, Heritage Collections, State Library of Queensland

The Margaret Lawrie Collection includes a substantial range of materials and research on the cultural history of the Torres Strait, as well as the history of Torres Strait Islands. In early 2009, a three-year plan was developed that set out a range of activities to develop, promote and engage with this significant collection in a coordinated, relevant, and complementary way. Louise Denoon shares how State Library is working with the community to make the collection material more accessible – what challenges State Library have faced, achievements and long term plans.
