Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resources

The State Library of Queensland aims to be a leader in the provision of library services for Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders. The State Library actively supports this through collaboration with public libraries, supporting local initiatives which engage with their community.

There are links to resources and information that can assist public library staff and Indigenous Knowledge Centre Coordinators provide a welcoming and engaging library service to their local community.

Welcome toolkit

The majority of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders in Queensland live in areas served by public libraries. However, many libraries have reported difficulty in knowing how to reach out to these client groups in ways that meet their interests and needs.

To assist public libraries with engagement ideas the State Library has developed the Welcome Toolkit. The Toolkit is an online resource that provides information and ideas for creating a more welcoming and inclusive library service for your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

State Library of Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander portal
