Reference & research services
The State Library of Queensland aims to help as many Queenslanders as possible to find the answers, information and resources they need. We provide a free reference service to help you answer questions and find relevant resources for your topic. You can also use an online chat service to “talk” to a librarian online.
The State Library has a range of Info Guides [in English] to assist you in discovering the wide range of services and collections available to you at the State Library.

AskNow! [In English]
This is an online chat based information service designed to help you find answers to your enquiries. Anyone can use the service to chat online to a librarian who will answer questions and send web pages.
e-services card
With this free card [in English], you can access a range of electronic databases (including some that are searchable through your home computer if you have Internet access), book up to 2 hours free internet access on a computer terminal in the State Library, request items in storage, borrow sheet music if you live in Brisbane, and more…
Interstate and overseas visitors are eligible to apply for an e-services card when they visit. Identification will need to show proof of name and address. The card will be issued for a three month period.
Venue hire
Venue hire [in English] now has an online booking enquiry form for organising your next meeting, conference or event. The State Library can also cater for cocktail parties and special events. Community groups are welcome to enquire about what is available in this exciting and central destination. The rooms available for hire vary in capacity from 4 to 350 people and are available on each floor of the new library building.
The Library Shop
The Library Shop [in English] offers an extensive range of books, gifts and merchandise for people of all ages.
Find how to preserve your personal collection
The Collection Preservation Unit [in English] at the State Library is responsible for the preservation of print media and other objects such as parchment, photographic, digital and audiovisual materials, and provides free advice to members of the public and collecting institutions throughout Queensland and Australia.
