The Garage catalogue search

Use this form to:
- find vehicle repair information held in the State Library of Queensland's collection;
- order repair manuals for use in the State Library building at South Bank.
(Note: to just search for motoring images use the image search or try browsing the images.)
The collection includes manufacturer's official workshop manuals, repair manuals by technical publishers such as Gregory's, Haynes and others, and 'service station manuals' which cover the repair of many different vehicles from given time periods.
The Garage website makes it possible to identify the contents of 'service station manuals' and to find information on specific makes and models using the library catalogue.
To find catalogue records use this search box:
Your search results will open in a new window.
For best results type:
make and model e.g. Ford Falcon
or
make and year e.g. Ford 1962
or
make and type e.g. Chevrolet trucks
To see the full details of a book and its location, click on the blue Full title links on the titles results list.
Follow the instructions on the Detailed display screen to request your items.
Please note that the catalogue will display items which contain either of your search terms, listing the most relevant ones first. These will normally be on the first page of results.
Tips
- If you are finding a large number of non-automotive records in your results, add the word automobile to your search (eg. Morris automobile). If you are looking for truck information, note that the library uses both truck and trucks in the catalogue - search using both words for full coverage.
- Use the Titles results button to go back from a full record to your search results.
Requesting repair manuals
If you wish to look at a repair manual from the collection you may need to order it into the reading room. Use the search box above to begin.
Manuals with the message Location: Book Collection. Item is shelved on Level 2 will be on the open shelves for immediate access, but manuals with the message Location: Click 'Request an item'; Collect L3 (Delivery times apply) will need to be ordered for delivery to the reading room in the South Bank building.
If you have a State Library e-services card, you can order items by clicking 'Request an item' and following the prompts, otherwise contact the State Library by telephone or Instant Message.
Repair manuals that you request will be kept for you in the reading room for three days from the day of your order.
The South Bank building's reading rooms have photocopying facilities using State Library e-services cards, photocopy cards or coins (coins on level 3 only).
Requesting photocopies
If you are a resident of Queensland and cannot visit the State Library, you can request photocopies from vehicle repair manuals. To do this we suggest you:
- use the search box above to find catalogue records
- click on the record which is of interest
- print the record and request via your local public library or request directly from the State Library's information and research service.
