About The Garage image gallery
The Garage image gallery includes approximately 500 photographs selected from the John Oxley Library’s historic photographic collection and is part of the State Library of Queensland’s Picture Queensland initiative.
The photographs in The Garage collection cover the period between 1900 and the 1970s. They include a wide variety of vehicle makes and models used in Queensland and they reveal much about the social and physical aspects of early motoring in the form of road conditions and hazards, accidents and special events.
Many of the images were taken by or for individuals and families but there are also a substantial number of publicity photos taken for advertising and newspaper copy. In addition to their historical interest, these photographs will be of interest to restorers seeking to authenticate details for car restoration projects.
