While Sir Lawrence Hartnett was setting up the distribution of the Datsun Bluebird, other importers were also experimenting with the sales potential of Japanese cars in Australia.

The ship Aki Maru brought a floating exhibition of Japanese products to Brisbane in November 1960. While some of the vehicles on board would have been mystifying to the Australian public, it would not be long before Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mazda and others joined Datsun as household names for the Australian motorist.
