Downloading and viewing files

Within State Library of Queensland websites there are many files available for download. In order to access the files, you may have to download and install appropriate software applications.

PDF (Adobe Acrobat) | Microsoft Office files : PowerPoint, Excel, Word | Real | Macromedia Flash | Microsoft Windows Media

PDF (Adobe Acrobat)

PDF (Portable Document Format) is an Adobe Acrobat document type. You may need to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader [new window http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html] to access PDF documents.

Use Acrobat Reader to:

  • view a document by selecting the link text. The document will load into the reader.
  • save a document for later viewing by right-clicking your mouse on the link text and selecting Save Target As and saving the file in your preferred location.

If you have a Macintosh with a single button mouse:

  • save a document for later viewing by holding down the control key while you click your mouse on the link text. Select Save Link As or Download Link to Disk and save the file in your preferred location.

To convert PDFs to HTML or text formats use the Adobe PDF files online conversion tools [new window http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_onlinetools.html].

Microsoft Office

To view Word, Excel or PowerPoint files, select the link text. The document will load into the reader.

To save Word, Excel or PowerPoint files for later viewing, right click the mouse on the link text, select Save Target As and save the file to the relevant location on your drive.

If you have a Macintosh with a single button mouse:

  • save a document for later viewing by holding down the control key while you click your mouse on the link text. Selecting Save Link As or Download Link to Disk and save the file in your preferred location.

Excel (.xls)

You may need to download the free Microsoft Excel viewer [new window http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/xlviewer.aspx] to access Microsoft Excel documents.

PowerPoint (.ppt)

You may need to download the free Microsoft PowerPoint viewer [new window http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=428D5727-43AB-4F24-90B7-A94784AF71A4&displaylang=en to access Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.

Word (.doc)

You may need to download the free Microsoft Word viewer [new window http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=95E24C87-8732-48D5-8689-AB826E7B8FDF&displaylang=en] to access Microsoft Word documents.

Real (.ra, .rm, .ram)

You need RealOne Player [new window http://www.real.com/realone/realoneplayer.html?lang=en&loc=au&src=realplayer,030508_radiopass_en_au] from RealNetworks to access Real media formats.

Macromedia Flash (.swf)

To view interactive Flash content you may need to download the free Flash player [new window http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer] from Macromedia.

Microsoft Windows Media (.wma, .wmv, .asf, .asx, .wax)

You need a Windows media player from Microsoft to access Windows Media formats. Download a free Windows Media Player [new window http://microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp].
