Finding what you want

Films (on VHS videocassette and DVDs) can be found through the State Library of Queensland's catalogue. Reference staff can also assist you in finding film resources.

National Film and Sound Archive

The State Library audiovisual service acts as the Queensland access centre for the National Film and Sound Archive [new window] (formerly Screensound Australia), Australia's national collection of screen and sound. Copies of material from this archive of Australia's sound and moving image heritage are available for use in the State Library. They include Australian feature films, documentaries, newsreels, television shows and advertisements.

Accessing films

Visit the State Library building at South Bank and request your film at the Level 3 desk. You can watch your chosen film at any PC on Level 3 . For help locating a film in the catalogue, contact a Reference Librarian or ask for assistance at the information desk on Level 2.

Borrowing from the collection

Individuals
Individuals may borrow material by placing a request with the local public library. The requested material is sent to this library. Please note that individuals must register as borrowers with their public library.

Libraries
Libraries may borrow material directly from the State Library of Queensland by registering as an audiovisual borrower with the State Library audiovisual service.

Please note: We do not lend materials from the National Film and Sound Archive onsite collection. These items appear in our catalogue with a collection code NFSA. Visitors are welcome to view them within the State Library.
