Nielson Design Lecture with Sir Peter CookBritish architect Sir Peter Cook returned to Brisbane in 2010 to present the annual Nielson Design Lecture at the State Library of Queensland. Building on the success of the first lecture presented by Michael Sorkin in 2009, the 2010 lecture was a key event in the Unlimited: Designing for the Asia Pacific festival at State Library of Queensland from 2 – 10 October 2010.
Through this partnership, the State Library and Nielson Properties make it possible for Queensland designers to be exposed to the world's best, and ensures they are at the forefront of innovative design and urban planning. Sir Peter Cook is an innovative thinker and inspirational educator. In 2007 his long-standing commitment to his profession earned him a knighthood for services to architecture and education. In his early years, as a member of the maverick architectural collective, Archigram, Cook attracted international attention for his futurist visions of Britain's built environment that were underpinned by utopian technology and a classless society. His evocative drawings such as Plug in City appeared in The Times colour supplement in London, cementing Archigram's influence on a generation of students, architects, planners and the public at large.
The 2010 Nielson Design Lecture was the second in a three year program of keynote talks by international architects and designers.
