Help with webcasts
About webcasts
The State Library of Queensland provides video and audio webcasts of public lectures, interviews, training sessions and other public programs.
In most cases, streaming technology is used to deliver the webcasts. Streaming media files are not available for downloading to your computer. The State Library provides two versions of webcasts that you can select to suit your connection speed – dial-up or broadband.
In some cases, the Library provides an mp3 file of audio webcasts. You can download mp3 files to your computer or mp3 player.
What you need
Most webcasts are streamed in two formats – Windows Media and Real – so you will need either Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. Both players (plug-ins) let you watch video and/or listen to audio.
Where to download the players
You may already have a media player installed on your computer. If not then both players are available free for download:
- RealPlayer [new window]. RealNetworks sell a variety of players, but offer a basic player free. Look for the link to the free RealPlayer (not the link to the trial version).
- Windows Media Player [new window]
How to save an mp3 file to your computer
To save an mp3 file to a folder of your choice on your computer, follow the instructions below.
To download on a PC: Right click the 'mp3' link, and 'Save Target As'
To download on a Mac: Hold down the Control button and click.
If you are using another browser that has different methods, save the mp3 files in the same way that you save other files, such as PDFs and images, via your browser.
