Bold But Faithful: John Oxley Library at work
Bold But Faithful featured in the Talbot Family Treasures Wall, level 4, State Library of Queensland from 4 Apr – 11 Oct 2009. The following is an excerpt from this exhibition.

Bold But Faithful celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the opening of Queensland’s most significant documentary heritage collection – the State Library of Queensland’s John Oxley Library.
More than 40 items from the John Oxley Library’s collection were chosen to reveal the wide variety of material acquired since the Library opened its doors to the public in 1934.
The exhibition brought to life some of the major events that took place in Queensland from the Separation from New South Wales in 1859 up to the present day. Of special interest are some intriguing and little known items which have never been displayed before.
Rare documents such as Captain William Bligh’s transcript of the official log from The Providence, a magnificent 18ct gold necklace and a notebook and ceremonial sword belonging to Queensland’s first Governor, sit alongside family albums, cartoons and fashion designs. By sparking our imagination and memories, this diverse show brings to life some significant events from both our own, as well as the State’s, history.
