A selection of beautiful hand coloured books that brought the birds of Australia to the attention of the world. They form part of the significant collection of nineteenth and twentieth century colourplate books about Australian birds in the State Library of Queensland’s Heritage Collections including the John Oxley Library and the Australian Library of Art.
This showcase of works highlighted the foremost publishers of Australian bird books including John Gould, Gregory M. Matthews, and Silvester Diggles. As part of the exhibition, there were also a number of bird skins on loan from the Queensland Museum, including the Paradise parrot and Lyre-bird.
