The 'Sydney Hotel' opened in 1865, with John Hurley listed as the publican, but the licence was revoked a couple of months later when the Hotel was abandoned.

The first Sydney Hotel was burnt down in 1881 and since that time two other Sydney Hotel buildings have occupied the same site.
