Ipswich Hospital

[John Oxley Library neg. 186957]
Tenders for the construction of the Ipswich Hospital appeared in the North Australian of the 1st June 1858, the plans having already been drawn up by Charles Tiffin, Clerk of Works at Moreton Bay, and later Queensland Colonial Architect.
By November 1859 the hospital was completed, a two-storeyed brick building with a slate roof. There were three wards on each floor with a capacity of 37 patients.

"much pleased with the cleanliness of the building, and the good order of the dispensary, as well as with the general arrangements of the institution."
