The Brisbane 1920 panorama was taken from the roof of the newly constructed Government Insurance Building on the corner of Elizabeth and George Streets. It had a number of later names, including the Administration Building and Family Services Building.
The Annual Report of the Department of Public Works for the year 1915-16 records a brief description of this building as it was being erected.
"This imposing eight story building ... will be carried up in freestone from a granite base ... the name of the bank being prominently shown on each frontage by burnished bronze letters ... Entrance to the banking chamber is by two 7 feet doorways at corner of building, and lead through a mosaic tiled vestibule ... On the fireproof roof which is flat, and rendered waterproof by a special Malthoid covering, will be arranged a photographic building of fireproof construction ... The contract amount for this building was £113,567/17/7."
