Indigenous and non-Indigenous people have joined together in the healing process and continue to work towards a position of mutual respect and understanding. The Journey of Healing organisation convenes National Sorry Day to express sorrow and offer apologies for the harm done to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Since 1997, National Sorry Day has been held annually on 26 May, the day the Bringing them home report was tabled in the Commonwealth Parliament. Another organisation, Reconciliation Australia, strives for reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
