Search for Queenslanders on the Veldt
When soldiers from Queensland joined British forces for the South African War, The Queenslander newspaper was there to record their involvement. From 1899 to 1902, reports and photographs appeared in the weekly newspaper, including many hundreds of portraits of the soldiers.
Search our database below for the names of soldiers whose portraits appeared in 1899-1902 issues of The Queenslander newspaper.
Search results are arranged alphabetically by the soldier's surname. Each soldier's entry includes information such as:
- rank
- details of military service
- personal contacts as they were given in the paper
- date and page of the issue in which the photograph will be found.
The Queenslander is held at the State Library of Queensland in both hardcopy and microfilm formats.
