About artists’ books online
Artists' Books online was a joint project with the State Library of Queensland and Education Queensland’s e-learning environment, the Learning Place [new window]
The project was developed to
- showcase the State Library’s collection of artists’ books
- provide access to people who could not visit the library in person
- provide curriculum materials to assist teachers in the classroom
- help to preserve the original works of art
Selection of artists' books
The State Library of Queensland has a unique collection of over 1300 artists' books by Australian and international artists, a collection strength of the Australian Library of Art. A small selection was chosen for the Artists’ Books Online project covering a range of styles and themes.
Copyright clearances and artists' statements
Artists, poets, binders and anyone else involved with the books agreed to allow the State Library non-exclusive copyright to use images of the chosen books for non-profit purposes. Artists also provided a statement for their works.
Education curriculum content
With the support of the Curriculum Strategy Branch of Education Queensland, teaching staff developed units of work content, activities and resources linked to the artists' books collection for students and for teachers in the classroom through Artists' Books Online.
