Queenslanders have access to a number of authoritative, subscription-only databases that are not available through Google or other free search engines.

Offsite access
To access these databases away from the library - from any computer connected to the internet (eg home or office) - you must be a Queensland resident and:

  • own a State Library e-services card (register for an e-services card allowing 5 days to receive your card); ;
    OR
  • be a member of a Queensland public library with a QPL account (register for a QPL account - immediate access after email verification)

Gale Virtual Reference Library Full text

Offers encyclopaedias and reference sources for research on many topics. You can access them from home twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, at the State Library or your local public library. We have selected 75 titles from all subject areas, such as Ancient civilizations reference library, Novels for students and Customs of Australia. Use them for quick look ups or doing homework assignments.

Health and Wellness Resource Center Full text

Provides access to articles in over 200 leading medical journals of which some 150 are available full text. It also indexes (full text) a number of medical reference books and pamphlets as well as selected articles from around 1500 general interest titles. See the list of titles for more information.

Meditext is an indexing and full-text database that provides Internet access to the scanned images (in  pdf) of journal articles from published material on all aspects of health and medicine.

Coverage: Full text: 1995+ ;  Indexed: 1968+

Oxford Reference Online Premium Collection Full text

A comprehensive resource that contains over 175 dictionaries and reference titles covering the complete subject spectrum: from general reference and language to science and medicine, and from humanities and social sciences to business and professional.

Proquest Science Journals Full text

Impressive collection of scientific journals in full text and image formats. Publications included in the database cover a wide range of topics from both the physical and life science disciplines.

PubMed

PubMed comprises more than 21 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.
