Business and economics

Queenslanders have access to a number of authoritative, subscription-only databases that are not available through Google or other free search engines.

Offsite access
To access these databases away from the library - from any computer connected to the internet (eg home or office) - you must be a Queensland resident and: 

• own a State Library e-services card (register for an e-services card allowing 5 days to receive your card); 
  OR
• be a member of a Queensland public library with a QPL account (register for a QPL account - immediate access after email verification)

ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics) Access to census data, demography statistics, migration, population, health, labour force and a select number of other ABS statistical publications. Full text of these publications can be found via the link on the main page to 'Publications' which can be browsed by subject or by publication number. Aspect annual reports online Aspect Annual Reports On-line offers access to the annual reports of Australian listed and de-listed companies dating back to 1995. It also provides access to the full documentation of ASX-lodged announcements from October 1998 to today, including prospectuses. These announcements are updated continually throughout the day. Business Collection (Informit) Covers all broad business fields, including: accounting, career development, commercial law, commodities, corporate governance, e-business, economics, employment, human resources, labour, management, marketing, occupational health, taxation, and unions. The Business Collection provides access to full content from a range of journals, monographs and books, and reference materials published by a myriad of small Australasian academic and professional associations, interest groups and research centres. Business Source Premier One of the largest full text business database provides full text for more than 2,950 scholarly business journals, including full text for nearly 900 peer-reviewed business publications. Coverage includes virtually all subject areas related to business. Full text (PDF) for more than 300 of the top scholarly journals dating as far back as 1922. See the list of titles for more information. Company360 Company360 provides detailed information on Australia's top 50,000 private and public companies. Content includes: company history and financial reports, industry comparisons and analysis, executive profiles, employee numbers, ASX data and shareholder information. Searchable by company name or code, personal name, industry sector and product type. Gale Virtual Reference Library Offers encyclopaedias and reference sources for research on many topics. You can access them from home twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, at the State Library or your local public library. We have selected 75 titles from all subject areas, such as Ancient civilizations reference library, Novels for students and Customs of Australia. Use them for quick look ups or doing homework assignments. Access: onsite@slq + offsite access for e-services members and Queensland public library (QPL) account holders Licence: unlimited
JSTOR  Multidisciplinary archive of high resolution scanned scholarly journals. It is not a current issues database. Because of JSTOR's archival mission, there is a gap, from 1 to 5 years, between the most recently published journal issue and the back issues available. Subject areas covered include economics, law, history, Asian studies, Middle Eastern studies, language, literature, music, film studies, performing arts, religion and visual arts. Kompass International Find companies world wide by name or by product. Information includes address and contact details, revenue, and number of employees. Information (in almost 20 languages) on companies from over 70 countries throughout the world. Searchable content includes: region, company name, product and service codes, product references, trade names, brand names and company executives. Coverage: Company profiles updated yearly. MasterFILE Premier Provides full text for more than 2,050 journals with information covering virtually every subject area of general interest. Includes hundreds of full text reference books, and an Image Collection of photos, maps and flags. Oxford Reference Online Premium Collection A comprehensive resource that contains over 175 dictionaries and reference titles covering the complete subject spectrum: from general reference and language to science and medicine, and from humanities and social sciences to business and professional. Who’s Who in Business in Australia Comprehensive, detailed information about Australian companies, including company subsidiaries, key personnel, statistics and share information. Search by company name, personal name, ASX code or industry sector. NOTE: you will need to select the 'Who's Who in Business in Australia' link located near the top of the screen.
